About the photo "Vernazza Sunset, Cinque Terre, Italy " The Cinque Terre coastal route is a beautiful and challenging 18km coastal walk which took me 2 days to complete. Vernazza is one of the five towns that make up the Cinque Terre region of Italy's Adriatic coast. Over the centuries, villagers carefully built terraces on the rugged, steep landscape right up to the cliffs and linked the towns together. Today this still exists as a beautiful coastal walk that can be done at a leisurly speed over a couple of days, stopping off at each of the villages and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, excellent seafood and beautiful rainbow coloured houses. In 1997, the Cinque Terre was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and in 1999 the National Park of the Cinque Terre was born.
